Homeowner's & Commercial Building Claims
After a catastrophe strikes your home or commercial building, one thing you don't want to deal with is a dispute with your insurance company over your claim. After an event, such as a fire or natural disaster, it is not unusual for insurers to deny your claim outright, deny that some items are covered, offer to only pay only a portion of the claim or refuse to pay additional living expenses you have incurred due to the damage.

Legal Malpractice
Everyone makes mistakes, even attorneys. We are sometimes asked what can a person do when their attorney makes a mistake so critical that it costs them in losing their claim against another party. In such a case, an attorney can be sued for legal malpractice.
Consider the case of a client that was blinded in his right eye by a high pressure hose at work. The nozzle on the high pressure handle broke, flinging the coupling towards his face and blinding him in one eye. He hired a local lawyer who missed the statute of limitations. A settlement was reached with the insurance carrier for the lawyer.

Social Security Disability
Many people rely on Social Security benefits to support them if they become disabled. Benefits are typically paid for injuries or illnesses that are expected to result in death or last for at least a year. But it is not unusual for benefits to be initially denied. As many as one-half of initial requests are denied.

Medical Malpractice

UnumProvident Disability Claims Previously Denied
UnumProvident recently agreed to reconsider approximately 200,000 denied disability claims. You may get a long letter indicating that you can have your claim reassessed. This applies to claims denied or closed since January 1, 2000. They must also allow for reassessment, upon request, of claims similarly denied or closed between January 1, 1997 and December 31, 1999.
If you have made a claim under a long-term disability policy provided by or administered by:
- Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company
- First UnumProvident Corp.
- Unum Life Insurance Company of America
- Paul Revere Life Insurance Company or
- Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company
and have had your claim denied, you may be eligible for substantial additional benefits.
If your statute of limitations had previously run out, you may now be eligible to file a complaint.
